Read below to discover the latest Facebook announcements from the month of June.
1 - Facebook - Top Fan Targeting
Facebook introduced ‘Top Fan’ badges late last year, with top fans being identified based on how frequent they comment, share, react or watch a creator’s content.
Any Page is eligible for top fans if they meet the below criteria:
- 10,000+ followers
- Older than 28 days old
- Using the video template for Pages
- Aren’t utilising the civic engagement badge
- Not a personal profile
As the Top Fan feature has now been around for 6 months, providing adequate time for Pages to build up respective, robust audience pools, Facebook announcing the launch of ‘Top Fan’ targeting has come at the perfect time!
Applicable for organic page posts only, this will provide the opportunity for Pages to share exclusive content or offers to highly engaged and loyal users, building a more personal and powerful connection with a very valuable audience.
2 - Facebook - Reveal Of Libra
With the official launch date expected to be 2020, Facebook revealed details of its new Cryptocurrency, Libra.
Once the Cryptocurrency launches, targeted at the 1.7 billion people across the globe who do not have access to a bank account, users will be required to download Calibra, the Libra digital wallet. Calibra will be available on Messenger and WhatsApp as well as having a dedicated app, making it accessible to all smartphone users.
Founding members of the ‘Libra Association’ include companies such as Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, Uber, Lyft, Spotify and eBay, who donated a minimum of £8m to be on the board. With such a broad variation of investors, it will be interesting to see how Libra can be utilised and integrated with each company. Will users be able to use Libra to pay for their taxi or for their music subscription? Will Visa and Mastercard be offering consumers the opportunity to purchase Libra with them? The possibilities will likely be endless!
3 - Instagram - Ads In ‘Explore’ Tab
With 50% of its 1 billion users visiting the ‘Explore’ tab every month in order to discover new content based on their interests, Instagram will start to introduce ads within this section across the upcoming months.
Providing the opportunity for advertisers to reach users beyond their Newsfeeds and Stories, the first test ads will be promoting IGTV and then will be available to selected brands within the following weeks. Within the initial roll out, only users who have actively engaged with Explore content previously, will be served ads during the launch phase.
4 - Instagram - Branded Content Ads Roll Out
Branded Content ads will now enable brand accounts to promote Influencer sponsored posts, providing the opportunity to open up scale and reach new, wider audiences who aren’t followers of either the influencer or brand.
Benefitting both brands and influencers, this update will allow highly relevant users to discover new brands and influencers, deepening the connection and value as a result.
Currently only available on feeds, Branded Content Ads can be managed and optimised by advertisers in order to measure the success of influencer content against a brands campaign objectives including reach, traffic, views and engagement. Conversion and App Installs aren’t trackable yet, but are predicted to be available soon to allow brands/advertisers to measure ROI.
These four updates are examples of how Facebook continues to evolve in order to enhance online experiences for users by making them more relevant and convenient to them.
