Christmas At Digitonic

Dec 20, 2019

December has been a very busy month for Digitonic and it’s also been filled with plenty of Christmas initiatives and activities to ensure everyone is feeling extremely festive ahead of the big day on December 25th. Read below to discover all the festive fun which is been happening throughout the month of December at Digitonic!

First activity on the agenda was making sure the office resembled Santa’s grotto and we had a lovely, christmas tree!

Here at Digitonic we are always extremely cost efficient and therefore in order to get our money's worth, the Christmas tree was delivered and decorated on Friday 29th November, giving us a full 4 weeks of the office smelling very festive with the lovely pine smell coming from the real christmas tree. The whole office got involved with decorating the massive 8 Foot tree which obviously had a colour scheme aligning with Digitonic’s brand colours and therefore featured a lot of pink and blue. The decorating didn't just stop at the tree as everyone’s computer monitors are also dressed up in tinsel.

Christmas Jumper Fridays are the best kind of Fridays! Starting from 29th November everyone was encouraged to dress in their unflattering, itchy christmas jumpers on a weekly basis. Luckily due to Glasgow’s very cold climate, this initiative was very well received!

The Christmas countdown needs to include a chocolate advent calendar, it gives a great excuse to eat chocolate before 10am! At Digitonic HQ we had not 1, but 3 advent calendars - what a treat! Names were chosen at random every morning with everyone loving the early morning pick me up.

Everyone loves mandatory fun and our (not so) Secret Santa was exactly that! With a £10 spending cap and names pulled randomly from an online Secret Santa generator, all presents had to be placed under the tree by Thursday 12th December. Everyone then opened their Secret Santa presents on Monday 16th December, making it officially best the monday of the year! Secret Santa highlights included; Beard Baubles, Crochet Cactus (for Kirsty from the Marketing team who kept killing real plants!), a Men In Kilts 2020 Calendar and Christmas Tree Baubles you can fill with your favourite Christmas tipple!

Bake Off is the highlight of December at Digitonic HQ, everyone loves having their daily dosage of cake!

Each team had their allocated ‘Bake Off’ week where they could bring in their cooking creations on a day that suits them. Digitonic are a talented bunch and their baking skills are top notch! The competition was extremely fierce, with some even doing practice Bake Off’s ahead of their allocated week. Creations included; a massive Red Velvet Cake, Brownies, Christmas Cupcakes, Ferrero Rocher Cheesecake and a Chocolate Orange Sponge Cake.

Friday 20th December was D-Day. The votes were submitted and counted with Jude from team Marketing winning the Bake Off crown for 2019 with her Red Velvet cake which included cream cheese icing and festive stars - what a Showstopper!

We appreciate Christmas is the happiest time of the year for most, but for those less fortunate, it can be a really difficult time of year. This year Digitonic organised two charitable giving back campaigns to support those in need over the festive period and we were blown away by the generosity and support from everyone at Digitonic.

Every child should be allowed to enjoy Christmas and receive a Christmas present. By donating gifts through Cash For Kids, Digitonic have helped to make this possible. Cash For Kids is Bauer Radio’s network of local charities which supports children across 22 areas around the UK. Their ‘Mission Christmas’ initiative focussed on collecting presents and donations to help make a difference and support disadvantaged children this Christmas.

Throughout the month of December, Digitonic welcomed gift donations including toys, toiletries and clothes for all ages from newborn babies to 18 year olds. On Tuesday 17th December, Lilly and Alison from the Design and Marketing teams went to the local Cash For Kids drop off point to deliver all the lovely presents!

This year Digitonic also supported local food banks across Glasgow and the West, with our Reverse Advent calendar. Throughout the month of December, Digitonic staff were requested to bring in a little something that can be donated towards a food bank in order to support those less fortunate during the festive season. Conall from team Marketing and Daniele from the Tech team donated 2 buckets which were full of donations - we were overwhelmed by the support!

Friday 13th December was definitely the highlight of an already very festive month, as it was the day of the Digitonic Christmas Party!

The party was a full-day affair, starting with a lovely buffet breakfast at the gorgeous Radisson RED Hotel in Glasgow.

This was followed by an Escape room which was so much fun! Hosted at the fantastic Locked In Escape Room, we were divided into 4 teams across 4 different themed rooms: Surgery, Witch Hunt, Christmas and School of Magic. The well deserved winners were the group with the smallest number of people and managed to escape within 43minutes leaving a whole 17minutes to spare! The winning team consisted of Ami, Lilly and Fiona from Design and Alison from Marketing. Two other teams were successful with escaping and funnily enough the team which included the most senior members of staff, were the only team not able to escape - better luck to them next year!

Escaping was followed by racing! Next we went to VR Simulators to compete in the notorious Digitonic VR Grand Prix. Ginger biscuits (as well as prosecco and beer) were at the ready where we saw Chris from the Tech team crowned the winner and taking home the trophy as well as his pride!

We then headed back to the Radisson RED to change out of our Christmas jumpers and put on our party clothes. At 7pm dinner was served in our very own private dining room where we were entertained by Christmas music playing in the background as well as our very own in-house MC - Lilly from the Design team!

Dinner was followed by drinks at the stunning rooftop Skybar at the Radisson RED where we continued the celebrations well into the early hours. What a fabulous day!

With all the fun Christmas activities planned throughout the month of December everyone at Digitonic is definitely feeling festive. Digitonic wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and best wishes for 2020!
